Do Plumbers Make House Calls?

November, 26th 2009 while preparing the garden for thirty-five dinner guests the following day I discovered that not only did Houston have problems but so did we. Our home has an environmentally friendly waste management system AKA as a transpiration pit. Unfortunately, the adjoining tank for reasons then unknown was in full overflow. Yes, the tide had come in. Smelly, and soggy grass. Problem all those visitors. Wonder if I could persuade them all to go to the toilet before they left home. Unlikely, so hasty phone calls to businesses whose job it was to pump out tanks such as ours.
Yes, we can come in ten days said the first company. No answer on the other end of the second call. Success with the third. Yes, they could come but it usually costs $300 but as it's a Saturday and a driver had to be secured for the price of $700 they would be able to pump our tank today. Thank you but we'll think about that offer.
Less than an hour later we had run out of options so we ran the third provider to attend to the rising damp.
The gentleman who arrived and completed the job in no more than forty minutes left with the offending waste.
Monday further telephone calls engaged another plumber to visit the offending site to rectify the problem. He did come promptly. He did charge a fee but he did exacerbate the problem when his drill head became lodged in the pipe between pit and tank. There had been a catostrophic collapse and the pipe as round as a man's fist was clogged with transpiration pit fill. That plumber wanted his drill head back so he dug down through the layers of the pit to retrieve it. Now we had a tank, a hole, a broken pipe and incomings with every flush.
That plumber was kind enough to refer us to yet another plumber whom he was sure could assist us further.
Good, that plumber lived only a street away. Finally, some good news. Therefore, another telephone conversation transpired and it was hoped that this plumber would address and resolve the growing problem. Yes. He agreed to come.
In early February, 2010 I was on my way to work when I passed the plumber making his way to our home. I was momentarily pleased. Our pit would soon be as good as new.
A plumber who does make house calls after all! Whole pit must be reconstructed. I'll give you a quote and we'll go from there.
February came and went as did March but still no quote. Easter 2010 I'd almost given up hope of a quote. You are probably thinking that we should have sought other plumbers. Imagine that every plumber with whom we had dealt in those five months all recommended the man who was to give us a quote. We were beginning to believe that he was the only person in the valley who did such work; so no alternative but to wait.
I answered a call just the other day from a lady requesting my email address so that she could forward the quote that we so desperately needed. Told my husband the good news. Had he received the quote? No. Check our email again. Still no quote.
Dilemma, don't appear too anxious so call by on the way to work, sign the quote and pray that it happens before winter.
Tomorrow is the day that the plumber is due to arrive to commence the reconstruction. Pray for fine weather or he might not come.

Wednesday:He did not come today. Maybe tomorrow.

Thursday: A new hero. The plumber came to my home today!!! Here he is hard at work. Everything will be finished tomorrow. John came to watch and to take notes. John wanted his picture on my blog too. This is for you John.
